53 Further Charges Laid Following Investigations Into Historic Indecent Assaults

Sex Crimes Squad detectives have laid a total of 53 further charges against two men in court today following investigations into two additional incidents involving alleged indecent assaults against two boys dating back to the 1980’s.

One of the men, a 60-year-old, was arrested on Wednesday 23 December, 2009, at a unit on Weston Street at Harris Park. He was charged with 141 sexual assault offences.

He appeared at Central Local Court today where detectives charged him with an additional 50 offences relating to the alleged indecent assault of a male aged between 11 and 15 between 2004 and 2007, at Harris Park.

The new charges include:

  • Six counts of aggravated indecent assault,
  • 44 counts of incite person under 16 years to commit act of indecency.

The man has been refused bail and will re-appear at Central Local Court on 16 February.

A 56-year-old man was arrested at a home on Devere Avenue at Belrose and charged with 114 sexual assault related offences.

He appeared at Central Local Court today where detectives laid an additional three charges against him relating to the alleged indecent assault of a 13-year-old male at Belrose in 1986.

The new charges include:

  • Two counts of act of indecency,
  • One count of indecent assault.

The man was refused bail and will re-appear at Central Local Court on 12 January.

The original arrests follow lengthy inquiries by Police into alleged sex offences against a boy between 1979 and 1988, as well as the alleged prostitution of the boy to numerous men.

Strike Force Lighthorse comprises detectives from the State Crime Command Sex Crimes Squad and was established in 2008 to investigate the alleged incidents.
