Five Charged With Trespass At Sydney Opera House – Sydney

Five people are to face court next year on charges of trespass after allegedly climbing a sail of the Sydney Opera House this morning.

About 8.15am, Police from the Rocks Local Area Command were called the Sydney Opera House on Macquarie Street following reports a number of people were attempting to climb one of the sails.

Local Police with the assistance of Police Rescue, attended a short time later where they allegedly located a group of five people on top of the sail.

A Police operation was undertaken to safely remove the group. During the operation, five people were removed from the sail without incident.

The five people, three women and two men, were subsequently arrested and taken to The Rocks Police Station where they were charged with one count each of trespass at Opera House.

The three women; a 32-year-old and a 34 year-old both from an unknown address, and a 40-year-old from Byron Bay, and two men; a 29-year-old from Botany Bay and a 34-year-old from Beaconsfield were all granted conditional bail to appear at Downing Centre Local Court on 2 February, 2010.

Investigations into the incident are continuing.
