More than $36 Million has been injected into the Northern Territory economy through the Territory Government’s $100 Million Public Housing Stimulus Program.

“Jobs and housing are key priorities for the Territory Government and our $100 Million Public Housing Stimulus delivers on both fronts.” Minister for Housing and Community Development Gerry McCarthy said.

“We are providing safe secure housing for our most vulnerable Territorians and investing in our local construction industry.”

Launched a year ago, the initiative has been a huge boost to the construction industry with tradies, small businesses and suppliers reaping the benefits.

Program delivers construction, renovation, repairs and maintenance to public housing properties including plumbing, electrical, painting, roofing, fencing and security installations.

So far nearly 1,000 homes across the Northern Territory have received works and 348 local businesses have been awarded one or more contracts.

Around $43 Million worth of work has been committed with a further $34 Million currently in the pipeline.

This week the Department of Local Government, Housing and Community Development has hosted industry briefings throughout the Territory to update the construction sector on the progress of the Stimulus program.
