Scholarships Celebrate The Vital Role Of Tasmanian Women In Agriculture

Victor P Taffa

Crucial role played by rural women and their valuable contribution to primary industries in Tasmania has been recognised in 2 agricultural scholarships announced today at Agfest.

Rebekah Frankcombe is the winner of the Tasmanian Women in Agriculture Scholarship for 2019 and Chelsea Rayner is the 2019 winner of the Tas Alkaloid Scholarship, Minister for Primary Industries and Water Guy Barnett said.

Rebekah Frankcombe

Rebekah lives and works on a dairy and cropping farm near Wynyard and has witnessed a reinvention of farming methods and continues to strive to improve farming practices.

Chelsea Rayner

Chelsea has started her own Simmental stud and her enthusiasm for her work makes her an ideal choice to take part in the Marcus Oldham Rural Leadership Program.

Tasmanian Government recognises this important contribution providing $120,000 over 4 years to TWIA reflecting our confidence in the TWIA to support and encourage more rural women to take on leadership roles in agriculture.

This year’s 2 Tasmanian scholarships winners will attend the Marcus Oldham Rural Leadership Program in July, to develop their leadership, communications and planning skills.

“Congratulations to the recipients of this year’s scholarships and for their future journey to build their skills and become leaders in the Tasmanian agricultural industry.” Minister Barnett said.
