“In addition to the strong media attention domestically, we’ve had coverage in the Guardian in the United Kingdom and the New York Times and Washington Post in the USA two of our key markets and taxi driver Doug Slater has been interviewed on radio stations from as far afield as Moscow, Mexico and Germany.”

“We have also had huge success online with social networking sites, plus the campaign website has had more than 130,000 visits, as people tune in to short films of each journey leg.”

The Minister said businesses and communities involved in the campaign were benefitting through boosted holiday bookings, sponsorship benefits and local welcoming events.

“Even at this early stage, our international and domestic travel partners are reporting significant increases in bookings to WA which they are attributing to their involvement in the campaign.” the Minister said.

“The Extraordinary Taxi Ride has also attracted a diverse range of sponsors and partners including Qantas, Travelpoint, Bankwest, TomTom, Skywest, Telstra, Budget, RAC and McInerney Ford with support valued at nearly $1.5 Million.”

“Local communities have held a series of welcoming events including the regional centres of Bunbury, Albany, Kalgoorlie-Boulder and Geraldton, while dozens of media opportunities have highlighted local attractions along the way.”

“There’s a real world-wide buzz about Western Australia right now and we’ll continue to promote WA after the journey’s end, with images and stories collected along the way.”

The Extraordinary Taxi Ride is midpoint through its 10,000 plus kilometre journey with seven sets of passengers from WA, Singapore, Malaysia, New South Wales, Victoria and Germany travelling through the State’s extraordinary experiences. the Minister said.
