As Emirates Stakes Day brings the Melbourne Cup Carnival to a close for 2011, the Victorian Government’s award-winning ‘You’ll Love Every Piece of Victoria’ tourism campaign will adorn the winning thoroughbred in Race Two at Flemington today.

Tourism and Major Events Minister Louise Asher said the state’s tourism industry would be showcased with Tourism Victoria securing the naming rights for the second race on Emirates Stakes Day, the Visit Victoria Handicap.

“While the Melbourne Cup is the race that stops the nation, this year’s Emirates Stakes Day recognises that Victoria’s tourism industry leads the nation.” Ms. Asher said.

“I am delighted to be able to present the trophy to the winner of the Visit Victoria Handicap today, and be able to use this occasion to highlight Victoria’s unrivalled major events calendar and promote our state’s $15.2 Billion tourism industry.”

“The Visit Victoria Handicap will promote Victoria across the country and around the world as a tourism destination.”

The state’s tourism message will be further promoted during the Visit Victoria Handicap through a branded horse presentation rug, which will be displayed on the winning horse following the race.

Ms Asher said that in 2010 the Spring Racing Carnival boosted the state’s economy by $350 Million.

“As the Minister responsible for the innovation and design sectors, it is only fitting that Emirates Stakes Day also showcases Melbourne’s creativity and excellence in the food and fashion sectors.” Ms. Asher said.
