Eaglehawk Primary School To Remain Open In 2011

Minister for Education Martin Dixon today announced the Coalition Government had put plans in place to ensure that Eaglehawk Primary School remains open.

“The Baillieu Government is committed to ensuring that Eaglehawk Primary School remains a stand-alone school, with its own principal and school council, and will provide $2 Million for much-needed maintenance to ensure the future of the school.” Mr. Dixon said.

“We have listened to parents and the community who want Eaglehawk Primary School to remain open, unlike Jacinta Allan and Labor who sneakily deceived the community about their true intentions.”

Yesterday Jacinta Allan admitted in a statement that under Labor the merger has been planned for the past two years.

Mr. Dixon said he had instructed the Department of Education and Early Childhood Development (DEECD) to take the necessary steps to ensure that all staffing and other arrangements are in place at Eaglehawk Primary School for a smooth transition to the 2011 school year.

Next year, DEECD will undertake a comprehensive consultation process with the wider community on future support for the school.

The Eaglehawk Primary School Council, parents, teachers and the broader community will be directly involved in the consultation process.

Mr. Dixon also expressed his thanks to representatives from Eaglehawk Primary School Council representatives for making the time to meet with him yesterday.

“There is a solid commitment by the school community to ensuring the best outcomes for children in the Eaglehawk community.” Mr. Dixon said.
