“Today it is with great sadness that we learn of the passing of former Liberal Member and President of the Legislative Council, the Hon Arthur Whyte AM.” Opposition Leader Steven Marshall said.

“Born in 1921 in the Flinders Ranges, Arthur worked as a station overseer before becoming a farmer on the Eyre Peninsula.” Mr. Marshall said.

“He also served in the Second World War and was one of the Rats of Tobruk.”

“Arthur then went on to become a Member of the South Australian Legislative Council from 1966 to 1985, including as President for almost eight years, and played a key role in the passage of the Maralinga Land Rights legislation.” Mr. Marshall said.

“Arthur was a wonderful contributor to South Australia and a strong advocate for regional South Australians.” South Australia Liberal Party President Robert Lawson said.

“On behalf of the SA Liberal Party, I extend our sincere condolences to Arthur’s family and friends.” Mr. Lawson said.
