The Tasmanian Liberals today pay tribute to former sporting legend, and State Labor Minister, Darrel Baldock.

A Champion Footballer, Mr. Baldock was selected to represent Tasmania at the age of 13, and famously remains St. Kilda’s only Premiership Captain.

“Following his retirement from football, Baldock was elected into the Tasmanian House of Assembly in 1972, serving for 15 years and holding a number of ministries.” Opposition Leader Will Hodgman said today.

“He was highly regarded not only by his Labor colleagues, but also by people across the Political Divide. He was involved in so many facets of Tasmanian life, and was a man who got things done.”

“He will be remembered as a true legend, and a man who served Tasmania with great distinction.”

“The Tasmanian Liberals offer their condolences to Mr. Baldock’s family.” Mr. Hodgman said.

Former St. Kilda Captain Darrel Baldock led his team to a 1 Point Win in the 1966 Grand Final against Collingwood. This win remains St. Kilda’s only Premiership Success.
