Queensland Ramps Up Tourism Campaign, While Labor-Green Government Wastes Millions Of Marketing Funds

Victor P Taffa

The Labor-Green Government needs to seriously get its act together on providing support to our tourism industry following news that the Queensland government will ramp up an aggressive advertising campaign following the recent floods, Shadow Minister for Tourism Will Hodgman said today.

“But rather than being ready to respond with an aggressive campaign of our own, it was revealed yesterday in a Legislative Council committee hearing that the Labor-Green Government has blown millions of dollars of tourism marketing funds over the past year.”

“The Tourism Industry in Tasmania has a legitimate complaint given revelations that these multi-million dollar campaigns have been poorly timed and aren’t working.” Mr. Hodgman said.

“Again I call on Tourism Minister Michelle O’Byrne to re-assess the Government’s so-called strategy and to ensure that investments in marketing actually meet market needs and draw visitors to our state.”

“But this is a Minister who does not listen and instead insisted that the “Hidden Secrets” campaign has worked a claim now debunked by Tourism Tasmania.” Mr. Hodgman said.

“The Labor-Green Government has shafted the Tourism Industry by not delivering election promises, and now it’s confirmed they have wasted money on dud campaigns, spending millions along the way.”

“If Tasmania is to compete with aggressive marketing campaigns from other states, we can’t afford any more incompetence from the Labor-Green Government.” Mr. Hodgman said.
