Tender to build and install a new Northern Territory Library exhibition was released yesterday.

New A Territory Story exhibition is planned to be ready for the second half of 2018.

Minister for Tourism and Culture, Lauren Moss said this was an important project that would draw from within the extensive Library collection, the stories of the Territory.

“Exhibit is another part of our efforts to revitalise the CBD and we hope to attract more Territorians to come and visit our library as well as tourism visitors interested in learning more about the Territory.” Minister Moss said.

“There is no doubt that Territorians are proud of our history. A Territory Story will be a survey of the people, the places and the events that have shaped the Territory. The exhibition will provide a small taste of what the Museum of the Northern Territory could deliver in the future.”

Exhibition will have extensive digital, audio and interactive components that will appeal to a broad audience.

This new exhibition will tell different stories to those already well covered by other institutions, such as the Cyclone Tracy exhibit at the Museum and Art Gallery Northern Territory and the Bombing of Darwin story at the Defence of Darwin Experience.

Themes will include Check It Out showcasing the Northern Territory’s performing arts sectors; Home a tactile display of the evolution of the Territory home; and Territorians that explores the people of the Territory the wild, the quirky, the movers and shakers, and the little known who led simply extraordinary lives.

Department of Tourism and Culture, Director Northern Territory Library, Patrick Gregory said the installation of ‘A Territory Story’ Story’ is a response to the strong public interest in exploring the history of this fascinating and diverse place, and a great opportunity for the Library to share and bring our remarkable collections to life.

“With around 10 themes explored in the exhibition, people can expect diversity in the content; from the wild and quirky, to the movers and shakers who led simply extraordinary lives.” Mr. Gregory said.

Build and construct contract is expected to be awarded in early 2018 with construction to begin soon after.
