Tasmania Remembers Rail Safety Week 2016

Tasmania Minister for Infrastructure Rene Hidding

Rail Safety – It’s Everyone’s Responsibility

Victor P Taffa

Today marks the beginning of Rail Safety week, and I am once again pleased to pledge my support for this important initiative, Minister for Infrastructure Rene Hidding said.

Rail Safety is an important issue that affects the whole community, and it’s everyone’s responsibility to ensure that our railways remain accident free.

The reality is that every injury or death that occurs on the rail network can be prevented by people acting more responsibly and always obeying railway signs and signals.

It can only take a fraction of a second for a near miss to turn into death or serious injury, and this year’s theme of “Rail Safety, it’s everyone’s responsibility” reinforces that the responsibility is on each of us to take accountability for our own actions when interacting on or near the rail network.

“On behalf of the Government, I urge all Tasmanians to heed this message not only during rail safety week, but every single time they are waiting at a rail crossing.”

“I would also like to commend TasRail for their important efforts in promoting this safety message.” Mr. Hidding said.
