Modbury Hospital to receive $47 Million under Redmond

South Australia Opposition Leader Isobel Redmond

It’s time now for action – no more spin

Victor P Taffa

A $300 Million package of commitments including an immediate re-investment in our metropolitan and regional hospitals will be the centre piece of a Redmond Liberal Government’s first term in office.

 The Modbury Hospital which has had its services rundown and cut over the last eight years will immediately get $47 Million to re-instate obstetric services, intensive care and keep the emergency department open 24/7.

Isobel Redmond, Leader of the Opposition outlined a Redmond Liberal Government’s vision for SA at the Liberal Party’s 2010 election launch at the Norwood Town Hall.

“I have a real plan to ensure water security in SA, I have a real plan to repair South Australia’s ailing health system and to reinvigorate our neglected education sector and I have a real plan to secure jobs now and for the future.” Ms. Redmond said.

A Redmond Liberal Government will provide:

  • $47 Million to upgrade and add services at Modbury Hospital

  • $75 Million for country health

  • $38 Million to provide an extra 4000 elective surgery procedures

  • $4 Million for scholarships for medical and nursing students

  • $52 Million to schools for focus on skills in math’s, science and English

  • $17.5 Million in support for non-government schools

  • $4 Million for extra school support officer hours

  • $16 Million to establish programs to focus on under performing schools

  • $5 Million seed funding for research & development of new green industries to be established at our new centre of excellence at Tonsley Park.

  • Additional works across our metropolitan and country hospitals.

Today’s announcements build on previous commitments to cut Land and Payroll Tax, to re-build the Royal Adelaide Hospital on site saving $1 Billion, to spend $400 Million on a stormwater harvesting program to take pressure off the River Murray and to provide SA Police with practical measures and the tools to halt the rising violent crime.

This is a realistic no-nonsense program to begin to repair the economic and social damage the Rann Government has inflicted on SA after eight years of inaction, indecision and failure to deliver on promises.

A Redmond Liberal Government will turn SA around and once again turn this state into a “Can Do State”.

Under the provisions of the relevant Electoral Act responsibility for all election comment is assumed by Editor Victor P Taffa. The Registered office of The Southern Thunderer is at 4/69a Darvall Road, West Ryde NSW 2114.

Baillieu To End Soft Justice

Victoria State Election 2010

COALITION TO END HOME DETENTION

Victor P Taffa

Victorian Opposition Leader Ted Baillieu will end Labor’s soft stand on justice and sentencing in a move that marks out the Liberal/National Parties and sends a clear message to Victoria and the Brumby Government.

A Victorian Liberal Nationals Coalition Government will end Labor’s “prison in the home” charade by abolishing home detention, Coalition Leader Ted Baillieu said today.

“Labor’s home detention policy is part of their soft-on-crime approach that ignores proper sentencing, community protection and the views of victims,” Mr Baillieu said

“Record numbers of criminals are being let out of prison after serving as little as two-thirds of the minimum sentence imposed by the courts.

“With ever-growing levels of violent crime and growing contempt for Police and the law by street thugs, this soft-on-crime approach is the last thing Victoria needs.

“While Labor claims the scheme is only for non-violent offenders, some offenders can be released on home detention after having committed crimes including armed robbery, aggravated burglary or intentionally or recklessly causing injury.

“Drug addicts who have repeatedly committed burglaries to support their addiction are also eligible for early release.

“Labor’s home detention by decision of the Adult Parole Board means prisoners are being released before they have even served the minimum sentence set by the court.

“This completely undermines the role of the courts and the community’s confidence that a minimum sentence means a minimum sentence.

“Even when home detention is ordered by a court, Labor’s laws require the court to go through the charade of treating home detention as though it is a prison sentence.

“A Coalition Government will completely abolish Labor’s home detention,” Mr Baillieu said.

Figures released by the Adult Parole Board show that 425 prisoners have been released into home detention by the Board since 2004.

“Labor has been soft on crime for 10 years. It’s time to take a stand for victims of crime and ensure those who commit an offence pay for their behaviour,” Mr Baillieu said.

“Victims of crime need to have faith that the justice system will provide sentencing that fits the crime.”

Abolishing home detention will further improve Victoria’s sentencing laws alongside other reforms previously announced by the Coalition, such as the two year licensed premises ban for perpetrators of drunken violence.

Given the policy direction of the Brumby Government it would appear that there is no border protection against weak Labor Government’s in other States’.

Hodgman pledges a fresh start for Tasmania on 20 March 2010

Tasmania State Election 2010

Victor P Taffa

Tasmanian’s have a clear choice to make on 20 March 2010: 16 years of Labor or a fresh start under Will Hodgman and his Liberal team.

A choice between four more years of the same old Labor, supported by the Greens, or the real change offered by the Tasmanian Liberals.

Will Hodgman and his Liberal team have already announced a number of significant policies in the vision and action agenda that includes:

  • Delivering greater honesty and accountability in government;

  • Duplicating the Midland Highway;

  • Creating a new body, Infrastructure Tasmania, to develop a state-wide infrastructure plan;

  • Further developing our renewable energy potential;

  • Building a New Generation Royal Hobart Hospital on the existing site;

  • Upgrading the Mersey Regional Hospital’s emergency unit ;

  • Cutting hospital waiting lists by utilising private hospitals, at no cost to patients;

  • Creating a smarter Tasmania and ending the experiments in our education system;

  • Freeze and cap water and sewerage bills as we fix Labor’s bungled changes.

In contrast, Labor has run out of ideas and has no vision for the future.

Over the past two months Labor has abandoned their principles and everything they have previously stood for in a desperate bid to buy their way back into office.

Tasmania needs change, real change.
