Police dogs earn their bones as 11 arrested in drug operation

Tuggerah Lakes Local Area Command

Drug dog operation nets 11 people – Tuggerah Lakes

A Police drug dog operation in the Tuggerah Lakes Local Area Command has netted 11 people on drug and anti-social behaviour offences.

On Friday 29 January, Tuggerah Lakes Police and officers from the Dog Squad conducted a drug operation at Toukley and The Entrance.

During an inspection of eight licensed premises a total of nine people were detected by the Police dog allegedly carrying small quantities of cannabis, amphetamines, ecstasy and Oxycontin (hillbilly heroin).

Police arrested 11 people with the following action being taken:

  • Two people issued cannabis caution notices
  • Four people issued legal action for offensive behaviour
  • One person arrested for breach of bail
  • One criminal infringement notice (CIN) issued for failure to obey with a move on direction.

Tuggerah Lakes Local Area Commander, Superintendent David Swilks said the operation reinforced his concerns relating to the links between criminal/anti-social behaviour and illicit drug use in the area.

“We will continue our focus on illicit drugs within the community and target those involved in the sale, use and supply of prohibited drugs as well as those who are determined to cause trouble and ruin the enjoyment of the area for others. I am disappointed the operation identified a number of licensing issues at two premises at The Entrance despite our concerted efforts to work with the premises through the Licensing and Liquor Accords.”

“Operations like this are part of a multi-faceted approach by Tuggerah Lakes Police to identify and arrest those actively involved in anti-social behaviour and we will not let-up on this issue” said Superintendent Swilks.

Members of the community are urged to report any anti-social behaviour or drug related crime to The Entrance Police on (02) 4333 2999 or Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000.

Jennifer Keegan last seen at Blackheath on 5 January 2010

St Marys Local Area Command

Mystery surrounds woman’s disappearance

Investigators are seeking clues into the mysterious disappearance of a woman from western Sydney earlier this month.

Jennifer Keegan, 52, was last seen at 10.30am on Tuesday (5 January 2010) at her home in Derby Street, Kingswood.

She was reported missing by a neighbour later that day.

Her car, a yellow 1981 Datsun Sunny was found abandoned at the Govetts Leap car park at Blackheath several days later.

A subsequent search of the area by officers from Police rescue failed to find any other trace of her.

Her car was also forensically examined but did not hold any further clues as to her whereabouts.

Police have today released CCTV which captured her buying fuel at a service station on Parker Street at Kingswood on the afternoon she was last seen.

This is her last known confirmed sighting.

St Marys Local Area Command Crime Manager, Detective Inspector Anthony Holton said her disappearance has her family and friends deeply worried.

“It is totally out of character for Jennifer to go away for this period of time without making contact with loved ones,” Detective Inspector Holton said.

“We have been in close contact with her family in Queensland, who has told us Jennifer gave no indication that anything was wrong.

“We are hopeful she is safe but cannot rule out the possibility of some type of misadventure.

“At this point in the investigation, it is vital we find someone who might have seen Jennifer or her car at the Govetts Leap car park.

“We need to establish who parked the car at that location and, if it was Jennifer, how she left the area.

“Anyone with that information needs to come forward immediately,” he said.

Ms Keegan is described as being of white/European appearance being 165cm tall thin build, with shoulder length reddish brown hair which is greying.

Police are appealing for anyone who may have seen Ms Keegan or has information regarding her current whereabouts to contact them immediately at St Marys Police Station (02) 9677 7499 Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000.

Callers can remain anonymous and might be eligible for a reward.
