Motorcyclist caught speeding, drink-driving – Picnic Point
Police have charged a motorcyclist caught speeding while drunk on a busy South-Western Sydney road.
Bankstown Highway Patrol officers were conducting random breath testing duties on Henry Lawson Drive, Padstow, about 7pm yesterday (Friday 5 February), when they spotted an eastbound motorcycle stop approximately 200m before the RBT station and perform a U-turn.
Police initiated a pursuit after observing the motorcycle overtake five vehicles on the incorrect side of the road.
The rider eventually stopped the bike on Henry Lawson Drive, Picnic Point, after allegedly reaching speeds of 120kmh in the sign-posted 60kmh zone.
The 48-year-old Picnic Point man was arrested and subjected to a roadside breath test with positive result.
The man was subsequently taken to Bankstown Police Station where he underwent a breath analysis, which returned a reading of 0.077, before being charged with riding in a manner dangerous, driving with a low-range prescribed concentration of alcohol (PCA), and exceeding the speed limit by more than 45km/h.
The man had his licence suspended on the spot and was ordered to appear in Bankstown Local Court on 4 March 2010.
