Three killed when car hits telegraph pole

St Marys Local Area Command

Crash claims three lives – Colyton

Three people have now died in a single car crash near St Marys early today.

Emergency services were called to the Great Western Highway at Colyton shortly after 3.15am after the XR6 turbo Ford Falcon sedan left the road and struck a power pole.

A man believed to be a passenger died at the scene.

The male P-Plate driver and a woman aged travelling in the rear of the car have since died.

A third passenger, also a young woman, has suffered serious leg injuries and a fourth female passenger escaped unscathed.

All are believed to be aged in their late teens or early 20s.

All eastbound lanes of the highway are closed between Sydney Street and Bennett Road. They are expected to reopen shortly.

Police were unable to say what steps are being taken to end the “car culture” that has completely overtaken the minds of young drivers and gives people the idea that driving a car is a licence to do whatever they like to fellow passengers and other road users.

Recent accidents on roads have included:

Melbourne road accident where five passengers were killed when the driver hit a telegraph pole at excessive speed with the car decapitated in two.

Police at Ashfield Local Area Command have attended whereby a teenage driver who has never held a licence crashed into two vehicles with a two year old on board.

Road authorities would be well placed to ascertain as to whether or not the positioning of power poles requires a review and if all power poles be place further from curbsides than currently occurs.

Police when asked referred this matter to the road authorities to consider.

Police would not confirm that society has taken leave of its collective senses.
