Man on multiple charges after striking pedestrian

Man charged after pedestrian hit – Lidcombe

A man has been charged after the car he was allegedly driving struck a pedestrian in Sydney’s South-West early this morning.

Shortly after midnight a Ford Falcon travelled in the wrong direction down Railway Parade, Lidcombe, before the driver alighted and allegedly struck another man to the head.

The driver then returned to the vehicle and allegedly struck the same man with the car.

The Ford then allegedly drove towards Police on the scene before one officer fired a shot, which did not hit the car, and the vehicle fled.

The pedestrian, a 34-year-old man, sustained soft tissue damage and bruising to his legs. He was taken by ambulance to Westmead Hospital for treatment.

A Ford Falcon was stopped in Susan Street, Auburn, a short time later. The driver, a 32-year-old Westmead man, was breath tested and allegedly returned a positive reading. The man was arrested and taken to Auburn Police Station where he allegedly returned a breath analysis of 0.146.

The man was subsequently charged with:

  • Common assault,
  • Driving in a manner dangerous,
  • Driving in a manner that menaces,
  • Mid range PCA,
  • Two counts each of negligent driving and failing to stop and exchange particulars.

The man was refused bail and is due to appear at Parramatta Local Court today.

Man dies despite leg amputation

Pedestrian dies after being crushed by car – South Penrith

An elderly man, crushed by a car at Penrith, has died of his injuries in a Sydney hospital.

Around 2.15pm yesterday, a 76-year-old man was reversing his Hyundai sedan in a car park in Smith Street, South Penrith, when it struck a stationary Nissan Pulsar sedan.

The Pulsar in turn, has careered into the 72-year-old pedestrian who was pinned against a shop wall.

The 72-year-old was rushed to Nepean Hospital with severe injuries and his leg was amputated.

His condition worsened overnight and he died of his injuries.

Forensic Services Group investigators examined the scene and the Nissan Pulsar was seized for mechanical scrutiny.

Investigations into the actions of the driver are continuing.

The dead man’s relatives have been notified and a report is being prepared for the coroner.

L Plate motorcyclist dies after crashing into tree

Fatal motorcycle crash – Albury

A learner motorcyclist has died in a crash in the State’s Far South overnight.

About 11.40pm Police and emergency services were called to Burrows Road at North Albury after reports that a male rider had been ejected from a Yamaha motorcycle.

Inquiries into the cause of the crash continue however it appears the man was riding North on Burrows Road when the bike left the roadway and he was ejected, crashing into a tree.

The rider, an 18-year-old Albury man was treated at the scene prior to being taken to Albury Base Hospital where he died a number of hours later.

A report will be prepared for the information of the Coroner.

Anyone who witnessed the crash who has not yet spoken to Police is urged to contact Albury Police via Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000.

Fatal car crash – Braidwood

A report will be prepared for the Coroner after the death of a man in a single vehicle car crash in the State’s South yesterday.

About 6pm on Friday 29 January Police and emergency services were called to the Kings Highway at Braidwood after reports of a car crashing into a tree.

Initial inquiries suggest a 75-year-old Braidwood man was driving a Jeep Cherokee 4WD east on the Kings Highway, when the vehicle left the road about 270 metres east of Deloraine Road and crashed into a tree.

The driver, and only occupant, suffered multiple injuries and died at the scene.

A post mortem will be conducted in the coming days.

Anyone who witnessed the crash who has not yet spoken to Police is urged to contact Monaro Police via Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000.

Search underway for missing Victorian man Daniel Rosewall

Broken Hill Police search for missing Victorian man

Police are searching for a Victorian man who has gone missing in remote scrubland near Broken Hill in the far west of New South Wales.

Around 7am yesterday (Friday 29 January), Police from the Barrier Local Command located a red coloured Mazda 3 with Victorian number plates abandoned on Walangi Road, a dirt road 50km north of the township of Silverton.

Police have expressed concern for the welfare of the car’s driver, 28-year-old Daniel Thomas Rosewall of Bendigo Victoria.

Officers fear Mr. Rosewall has become lost in barren scrubland, in 40 ° heat.

It is not known whether he is equipped with food or water.

He is described as white European in appearance, 178cm tall, with a medium build and short, dark coloured hair.

He was last seen wearing:

  • Grey collared polo shirt,
  • Dark coloured shorts,
  • Black business shoes,
  • Baseball cap featuring a “Sox” motif.

NSW Police are coordinating an extensive ground and air search in conjunction with the State Emergency Service, the NSW Rural Fire Service and local landowners.

A Polair helicopter is working in close contact with Police ground units in an effort to locate the missing man.

Police are keen to speak to anyone who has had contact with Mr. Rosewall in the past 48 hours or who may have sighted his red Mazda.

Man arrested over 1998 sexual assault

Man charged over alleged sexual assault of 85-year-old woman in 1998 – Guildford

A man will appear in court today charged over the alleged aggravated sexual assault of an 85-year-old woman in 1998.

About 3pm yesterday (Friday 29 January 2010), a 32-year-old man was arrested and taken to Merrylands Police Station where he was charged with:

  • Aggravated break and enter,
  • Commit felony,
  • Aggravated sexual assault inflicts actual bodily harm.

He was refused bail to appear at Parramatta Local Court today (Saturday 30 January 2010).

It will be alleged that on 5 April 1998, a 20-year-old man entered a unit in Constance Street at Guildford and held a knife to the throat of a sleeping 85-year-old woman.

The elderly female was then sexually assaulted.

The man allegedly stole cash and numerous items of jewellery before leaving the unit.

Man’s body identified – Brunswick Heads

Police have positively identified human remains located in bushland at Ocean Shores as missing man Kevin Kirk.

Mr Kirk, 70, was last seen walking a small Staffordshire dog through Ferry Reserve Caravan Park at nearby Brunswick Heads on 18 January.

A series of searches for Mr Kirk were conducted in the area by Police and other emergency services after he was reported missing but failed to locate any trace of him.

His remains were found during a search on Thursday.

A post mortem examination will be conducted on Monday to try and establish the cause of Mr Kirk’s death.

A report is being prepared for the Coroner.

Woman charged with fraud of phones worth more than $200,000

Phone company employee charged over alleged $200,000 fraud

A woman will appear in court next month charged in relation to the alleged defrauding of a major phone company of items worth $200,000.

About 1pm yesterday (Friday 29 January 2010), a 25-year-old woman attended Blacktown Police Station where she was questioned in relation to attempting to fraudulently obtain 1,000 Apple iPhones from her employer, a major phone company.

Each phone costs $1,086.

The woman was also questioned in relation to allegedly fraudulently obtaining 182 mobile phones on Wednesday (27 January 2010).

The items allegedly included:

  • 13 Blackberry 9500 phones,
  • 11 Blackberry 9700 phones,
  • 31 Nokia N97 phones,
  • 131 Apple iPhones.

The 25-year-old was charged with obtain benefit by deception ($200,000) and granted conditional bail to appear at Blacktown Local Court on 25 February 2010.

Man charged over fatal collision – Dolls Point

A man will appear in court in March in relation to a fatal collision at Dolls Point in Sydney’s South last week.

About 4.15pm on Monday (18 January 2010), a Ducati motorcycle and a bus collided at the intersection of Sandringham and Norman Streets.

The 29-year-old male motorcyclist sustained extensive injuries and died at the scene.

The 40-year-old bus driver was treated for shock and underwent mandatory testing at St George Hospital.

Police attached to St George Local Area Command investigated the circumstances surrounding the collision.

A 40-year-old man has been issued a Future Service Court Attendance Notice for the offence of negligent driving (occasioning death).

The man will appear in Kogarah Local Court on 16 March 2010.

Nowra bridge battle results in charges laid

Charges laid over Australia Day brawl – Nowra

Police have charged four teenagers in relation to a large brawl on Australia Day that led to a teenager being knocked unconscious at Nowra on the State’s South Coast.

About 6pm on Tuesday (26 January 2010), three males and two females were allegedly confronted by a larger group of youths on Nowra Bridge. The smaller group sought refuge in a nearby shopping centre, however, the larger group followed the five teens and a brawl allegedly occurred.

The three males and two females then sought further refuge in a supermarket but were followed by up to 25 people and more violence ensued.

Officers entered the shopping centre and were confronted by five males, with Police forced to use capsicum spray to subdue them. They were taken to the Nowra Police Station and later released, pending further investigation.

On Thursday (28 January), a 16-year-old male and a 17-year-old male were arrested and taken to Nowra Police Station where they were charged with affray.

They were granted conditional bail to appear at Nowra Children’s Court on 4 March 2010.

Yesterday (Friday 29 January 2010), an 18-year-old male and a 16-year-old male were arrested and taken to Nowra Police Station where they were charged with affray and granted conditional bail.

The 18-year-old male will appear at Nowra Local Court on 22 February 2010, while the 16-year-old male will appear at Nowra Children’s Court on 18 February 2010.
