Four men charged over attempted robbery overnight – Robbery and Serious Crime Squad

Robbery and Serious Crime Squad detectives have this morning charged four males in relation to an alleged attempted armed robbery of a sports centre at Dundas overnight.

About 11.20pm yesterday, police received reports of an alleged armed robbery at a sports centre on Elder Road at Dundas involving two men armed with knives and a sledge hammer.

Police, who were in the vicinity at the time, responded quickly and stopped a vehicle on Chiswick Road at Greenacre.

Four men inside the vehicle were arrested by police and taken to Bankstown Police Station. The males include a 16-year-old from Yennora, a 17-year-old from Auburn, a 17-year-old from Berala, and an 18-year-old from Lidcombe.

A search of the vehicle was conducted, where police located and seized a knife and gloves.

Each of the four males have been charged with attempt robbery whilst armed and in company with an offensive weapon, participate in a criminal group, and possess offensive weapon.

They have all been refused bail. The youths will appear at Parramatta Children’s Court today, while the 18-year-old will appear at Bankstown Local Court today.

Strike Force Suakin comprises detectives from the State Crime Command’s Robbery and Serious Crime Squad and was established to investigate a number of alleged armed robberies on hotels and clubs following the robbery of a hotel at Canley Heights on 1 September this year.

Bathurst airborne car results in male fatality

Fatal crash – Bathurst

Police from Chifley Local Area Command are preparing a report for the Coroner after a man was killed in a car crash at Bathurst overnight.

About 11.30pm on Wednesday 18 November a 31-year-old Victorian man was travelling westbound along Boundary Road in a 2009 Holden SSV Commodore.

Travelling in the front passenger seat was a 23-year-old local woman.

As the vehicle approached the intersection with Hinton Road, which is controlled by a roundabout, the Holden appears to have left the road and travelled onto the gravel verge before striking a fence post.

The car has then become airborne eventually striking a tree with its roof killing the driver on impact.

The passenger was able to get out of the vehicle and a passing nurse and off-duty police officer rendered assistance until the arrival of emergency services.

The woman was later treated for minor injuries at Bathurst Hospital and allowed to leave.

Investigators will prepare a report for the information of the Coroner outlining the full circumstances surrounding the fatal crash.

Ex-officio indictment issued for alleged murder of baby in 1996 — Unsolved Homicide Team

An ex-officio indictment has been issued in relation to the alleged murder of a baby girl in 1996.

Unsolved Homicide Squad detectives have been advised that the Department of Public Prosecutions has served the indictment for murder on a 34-year-old Northern Beaches woman.

The charges relate to the alleged murder of two-day-old girl who was last seen alive at Auburn Hospital on 14 September 1996.

The woman will appear at the Supreme Court on 4 December 2009.

Strike Force Kullara comprises detectives from the State Crime Command’s Unsolved Homicide Squad and was established to investigate the circumstances surrounding the death.

114 new charges laid against 3 men

114 additional charges laid over security van robberies, carjacking and murder conspiracy – Robbery and Serious Crime Squad

Robbery and Serious Crime Squad detectives will lay an additional 114 charges against three men in court today, following ongoing investigations into alleged armed robberies on armoured cash security vans and other serious offences.

Detectives expect to lay an additional 114 charges against three men at Central Local Court today when they appear in relation to previous charges following an alleged armed robbery of an armoured cash security van at Potts Point on 12 January this year.

A 22-year-old man will be charged with an additional 37 offences while a 26-year-old man with an additional 39 offences and a 23-year-old man with an additional 38 offences including:

  • Robbery whilst armed with a dangerous weapon, and related charges, following the alleged armed robbery of an armoured security van at Potts Point on 12 January, North Sydney on 10 February, Lane Cove on 20 April, Bellevue Hill on 25 May, Epping on 28 May, and North Sydney on 22 June. The 26-year-old will also be charged in relation to an alleged armed robbery of a bank at Leichhardt on 9 April.

 

  • The 22 and 23-year-old men will be charged with fire at a dwelling, following the shooting of a man at Glebe on 23 February. The 23-year-old will also be charged with discharge firearm with intent.

 

  • Conspiracy to murder, in relation to an incident on 29 April.

 

  • Take motor vehicle with assault, and related charges following an alleged car-jacking at Kings Cross on 6 June.

 

  • Receiving stolen property, and related charges, following the recovery of a silver BMW at Marrickville on 12 August, and recovery of a black BMW at Strathfield on 19 August.

 

Strike Force Castlemaine comprises detectives from the State Crime Command’s Robbery and Serious Crime Squad, and officers are working in conjunction with Strike Force Brittania to investigate robberies on armoured cash security vans.

Camden accident claims woman and her dog

The road toll for the year now stands at 415 fatalities. This exceeds the Road Toll for 2008 of 321.

Fatal crash near Camden

A woman and her dog have died in a single car crash near Camden yesterday afternoon.

About 5.40pm, the woman was driving north along Cawdor Road at Cawdor, when her Holden Rodeo utility left the road and hit a wooden power pole.

The impact trapped the 50-year-old driver in the cabin. She was attended to by paramedics and a doctor from a rescue helicopter but was pronounced dead shortly after 6pm.

The body of her dog, which had been travelling inside the utility, was found a short distance away.

A second dog was seen running away shortly after the crash.

Investigators from Camden Local Area Command attended the crash site and the road was closed for three hours.

All information will be included in a report for the Coroner.

Meadowbank drug lab exposed

Three people charged and clan lab dismantled following operation targeting drug manufacture – Drug Squad

Drug Squad detectives have arrested and charged three people and dismantled a clandestine laboratory in Meadowbank following a successful operation targeting drug manufacture.

Detectives yesterday executed search warrants at three locations including homes on Constitution Road at Meadowbank about 4.30pm, Sutherland Road at Jannali about 10am, and Windsor Road at Kellyville about 6.20am.

At the Meadowbank address, police located an active clandestine laboratory within a shed on the property and will allege it was being used in the manufacture of methylamphetamine.

A number of items were seized from the premises including a pill press, glassware, and chemicals, as well as 1kg of cannabis leaf, a quantity of methylamphetamine, and a sum of cash. Police are currently at the scene in the process of dismantling the lab.

A 41-year-old man and a 35-year-old woman were arrested at the scene.

They have each been charged with manufacture and supply prohibited drug and have both been refused bail to appear at Parramatta Local Court today.

During the search warrant at Jannali, police located and seized shortened .22 calibre firearm, an amount of ammunition, relevant documents, a stolen Kawasaki Motorcycle, and a quantity of cannabis seeds.

A 47-year-old man was arrested at the Kellyville property and was taken to Castle Hill Police Station where he was charged with knowingly take part in the manufacture of a prohibited drug. This relates to a clandestine laboratory located at Ingleburn on 10 September 2009.

The man has been refused bail and will appear at Parramatta Local Court on 19 November 2009.

These developments follow the previous discovery by police of a clandestine laboratory at Ingleburn on 10 September this year, where a 37-year-old man was arrested and charged.

Strike Force Hawkshead comprises detectives from the State Crime Command’s Drug Squad and was established to investigate the alleged manufacture of prohibited drugs. Investigations are continuing.

Detectives urge anyone with information about drug manufacture or suspicious behaviour in their area, to contact their local police station or Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000.

Victorian man charged with theft of elderly

Charges laid over bogus trades people targeting the elderly

A man will appear in court this morning charged in a relation to a series of thefts involving elderly people across Sydney’s west.

The man’s utility was stopped by Hawkesbury Highway Patrol on Kurrajong Road at Richmond at 1.30pm yesterday.

The vehicle matched the description of one involved in a number of thefts under investigation by Rosehill Detectives.

Police were alerted to the car by a truck driver in the central west as he was travelling in between Orange and Bathurst.

The 50-year-old man, from Frankston in Victoria, was taken to Windsor Police Station to assist Rosehill Detectives with their inquiries.

Officers also executed a search of the man’s caravan on Majestic Avenue at Parklea.

The man has subsequently been charged with dealing in the proceeds of crime and has been refused bail to appear at Blacktown Local Court later today.

Meanwhile, officers from Rosehill Local Area Command are continuing their investigating into 15 incidents where bogus trades people have targeted elderly residents to steal cash.

Rosehill Detectives are appealing to anyone who might have been a victim of a similar theft in Sydney’s western suburbs or the Central West to contact them via Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000.

Man charged with misappropriation of more than $4 million

36 charges laid against man for misappropriation of more than $4 million — Fraud Squad

Fraud Squad detectives have laid 36 charges against a man following extensive investigations into the alleged misappropriation of more than $4 million from a business in St Leonards.

Detectives yesterday (Tuesday 17 November), arrested a 55-year-old man. The man was taken to Parramatta Police Station where he was charged with 36 fraud-related offences.

The charges include the following:

  • 29 counts of obtain money by deception
  • 7 counts of director/officer cheat or defraud.

He has been granted conditional bail to appear at Parramatta Local Court on 6 January 2010.

The charges relate to the alleged misappropriation of $4,184,669 from a meat processing business at St Leonards, between 2002 and 2008.

Strike Force Fenn comprises detectives from the State Crime Command’s Fraud Squad and was established in September last year to investigate the alleged misappropriation of funds from a meat processing business.

North Sydney motorcyclist clocked at 200Km/h

Motorcycle rider detected at 200kph – North Sydney

Police have charged a man after he was detected riding his motorcycle at more than 200kph at North Sydney overnight.

Highway Patrol officers attached to the Harbourside Local Area Command were patrolling the Warringah Freeway when they detected a speeding motorcycle.

About 1.50am today the 28-year-old Middle Cove man was detected riding a Suzuki GSXR 600 motorcycle.

Police will allege that he was travelling at more than 200kph in the 80 kph zone.

The man was stopped by the officers and had his licence suspended and confiscated.

The man was charged with drive/ride speed dangerous and exceeding speed by more than 45 kph.

The man will appear at North Sydney Local Court on 8 December.

Man charged after bomb hoaxes – Sydney’s south & Blue Mountains

A man has been arrested and charged after making threats against schools across Sydney’s south and Blue Mountains areas over the last 24 hours.

Police will allege the 44-year-old Sutherland man engaged in making threatening hoax phone calls to a number of schools across Sydney claiming there was a device in the school grounds.

The man allegedly made a call to a primary school in Sutherland yesterday before ringing eight schools today including:

  • A primary school on Merriwa Street, Katoomba
  • A primary school on Falls Road, Wentworth Falls
  • A primary school on the Great Western Highway, Lawson
  • A primary school on the Great Western Highway, Hazelbrook
  • A primary school on Acacia Avenue, Kirrawee
  • A primary school in Miranda
  • A primary school in Taren Point and a primary school in Jamberoo.

Police were called to the schools and staff evacuated students as a precaution while each school was searched with police even calling in the services of a bomb dog at one of the schools.

Thorough searches of the schools were conducted with nothing suspicious located before police allowed staff and students to return to their classrooms.

Police will also allege the 44-year-old man contacted a care facility today before making a hoax call to the emergency services line.

Following extensive investigations by police, about 3:30pm the man was found outside a shopping centre on The Kingsway at Miranda where he was arrested and taken to Sutherland Police Station.

He was charged with 10 counts of using a carriage service for hoax/threat, one count of making a false call to an emergency services number and breach of bail.

The man was refused bail and is expected to appear at Sutherland Local Court tomorrow.
