Sydney’s Premiership Drought Is Over As Tigers Must End Theirs

Richmond Tigers Premiership Drought Is Longest Of Remaining Season 2017 Finalists

Victor P Taffa

In Season 2005 Sydney ended a 72 year Premiership Drought that remains the longest in AFL/VFL history.

However Richmond has the longest Premiership Drought currently of all remaining finalists in the AFL competition.

Talent, ability and determination win a Premiership. While sentiment does not win a competition it carries Public Support that enables a Football Club to ride the wave to victory.

Western Bulldogs in season 2016 rode the wave of Public Support to the win the Premiership. Sentiment helped however Western Bulldogs proved to be the best team in season 2016.

Clearly Richmond Tigers has both sentiment and Public Support. Richmond Tigers has talent, ability and the determination to win the Premiership in season 2017.

Attendances for Home and Away fixtures of all 18 AFL Clubs for season 2017 saw Richmond Tigers attract the most number of people through the turnstiles with 1,024,751 people.

The competition began in 1897 as the Victorian Football League (VFL). In 1990 the competition became the Australian Football League (AFL). Grand Finals were introduced in 1931.
