The Liberal National Government is seeking proposals from developers to deliver up to 160 private, affordable and social housing homes on the site of the former Hainsworth Primary School.

Housing Minister Brendon Grylls said the 4.2 ha site presented a rare opportunity for the private sector to partner the State Government and deliver affordable medium-density housing in a revitalised suburb.

“The Hainsworth project will create a vibrant, diverse community near parks, schools and a community centre.” Mr. Grylls said.

The Housing Authority will harness the creativity and experience of a private sector partner to achieve its vision of transforming middle-ring urban living through affordable, diverse and environmentally sustainable housing.

Successful proponent will facilitate all aspects of the development process from concept-to-keys. Site work is expected to start in mid-2017.

Mr. Grylls said the Hainsworth project was another example of the Government’s commitment to partnering with the private sector under the State Affordable Housing Strategy, which was expected to deliver 30,000 affordable housing opportunities by 2020.

“The Hainsworth project presents an attractive commercial opportunity for private developers to showcase a contemporary, attractive infill development.” Mr. Grylls said.

“It will provide a greater diversity of housing choice in Girrawheen, including modern contemporary apartments and semi-detached housing on small cottage lots.”

“The design will also incorporate existing native vegetation to preserve some of the larger established trees.” Mr. Grylls said.

  • Proponents will need to provide an integrated solution to project delivery, have the capacity and willingness to invest in the delivery of built form product, and work collaboratively with the Government to achieve the project’s vision and objectives
