Severe Thunderstorms that impacted Regional Areas extending from the Mid-West through to the Great Southern at the weekend will be offered assistance for Storm Damage.

Emergency Services Minister Rob Johnson said assistance would be provided to affected local governments and people for emergency accommodation, food, essential items and clean-up costs.

“The State Government is committed to helping Local Communities recover and get back to normal as quickly as possible.” Mr. Johnson said.

The Minister said more than 100 homes had been significantly damaged by strong winds and up to 55,000 customers were without power at the peak of the storm. He said Emergency Services had received about 300 calls for assistance.

“Once again our emergency services have responded and done a remarkable job in extremely difficult circumstances to support local communities.” Mr. Johnson said.

“Fire and Emergency Services Authority (FESA) staff, State Emergency Service (SES) volunteers, Volunteer Emergency Service volunteers and firefighters have all been working around the clock since the storms hit to assist people.”

“Valuable assistance is also being provided by Western Power, WA Police, Main Roads WA, Department of Child Protection, Water Corporation, and Local Government.” Mr. Johnson said.

Mr. Johnson said the available assistance was jointly funded by the State and Federal Governments and administered by FESA with assistance from other agencies.
