Heritage works will be undertaken to restore St. Arnaud’s railway station to its former glory, refurbishing the external fabric of the historic building.

Minister for Public Transport Jacinta Allan visited St. Arnaud’s railway station today to outline the restoration works on the station’s heritage-listed buildings, built in 1878.

“These restoration works will bring the St. Arnaud station back to life, restoring its rich heritage and providing an opportunity for a much needed community space for locals in the future.” Minister for Public Transport Jacinta Allan said.

“These works will pave the way for future plans to create and transform parts of the station buildings into community spaces.”

The works will include

  • Re-pointing brick work,
  • Internal flooring repairs,
  • Restoring wooden frames,
  • Installing new glass windows, gutters, downpipes and better drainage.

Tenders for the foundation works under VicTrack’s $1 Million annual Heritage Program will be advertised this month, and works are expected to start in 2017.

Successful contractors will work with the award-winning RBA Architects and Conservation Consultants.
