Spirits Continue To Thrive Under Hodgman Government

Minister for Infrastructure Rene Hidding announced the Spirits delivered 418,831 passengers across Bass Strait as at the end of the 2015-16 financial year, which is up a remarkable 8.9 % from the previous year, and up 26 % compared to the last full year of the Labor-Green Government.

“These fantastic numbers are great news for the state as Spirit passengers stay longer and spend more in Tasmania than those who come by other means, which means more money into local businesses and more jobs for Tasmanians.” Mr. Hidding said.

Momentum shows no sign of slowing down, with forward bookings up 14.5 % from the previous year and extra day sailings to meet with the increasing market demand.

“It shows what can be achieved when a majority Liberal Government has a positive plan and the energy to see it implemented, and stands in stark contrast to Opposition Leader Bryan Green who has opposed our plans from the start.”

“Mr. Green couldn’t even bring himself to accept an invitation to view the new Spirits, even though they are based in his own Electorate of Braddon, which shows Tasmanians yet again that he is only interested in negativity and scaremongering.” Mr. Hidding said.

“More people than ever are coming to visit Tasmania thanks to the strong policies of this majority Liberal Government, and it’s about time the Opposition acknowledged this and accepted they were wrong.”

“The Hodgman Government has proudly backed the Spirits of Tasmania as part our plan to drive tourist visitation, create jobs and boost the economy.” Mr. Hidding said.
