South Australia’s Unemployment Rate Remains the Highest in the Nation.

Australian Bureau Of Statistics (ABS) labour force statistics released today reveal that the number of Unemployed people in SA increased by 10,700 since the start of the year to 48,100.

Despite a surprise drop in the national unemployment rate in November, SA’s seasonally adjusted unemployment rate of 5.6 % remains the highest in the country and the long trend of increasing unemployment continues to rise.

Shadow Minister for Employment, David Pisoni, said that in light of today’s announcement Premier Rann’s election promise to create 100,000 extra jobs seems even further away.

“If under the Rann Government SA had kept pace with national jobs growth there would be 40,000 more jobs in South Australia than there are today.”

“Instead we have the worst Unemployment Rate in the Nation.” Mr. Pisoni said.

“Meanwhile, South Australia’s Youth Unemployment of 32 % continues to hover well above the national average of 22.3 %.”

“Despite the continual rhetoric from the Premier of a SA Mining Boom, SA Youth Unemployment is almost three times greater than that of Western Australia where Youth Unemployment is 12.3 %.” Mr. Pisoni said.

“In the Highest Taxed State in the nation SA continues to hold the dubious honour of the country’s Highest Unemployment.”

“Premier Rann and Treasurer Foley stand condemned for South Australia’s economic demise.” Mr. Pisoni said.
