SACE Board Chief Executive Appointment Announced By Acting Minister

New SACE Board Chief Executive Appointed

World-recognised scientist and researcher in the science of learning Professor Martin Westwell have been appointed as the new Chief Executive of the SACE Board of South Australia.

“Professor Westwell is well-placed to lead the continued modernisation of the SACE and its expansion into Asia as a high-quality, internationally-recognised secondary school qualification.” Acting Minister for Education and Child Development Ian Hunter said.

Professor Westwell will commence his 5-year term on 2 January 2018, replacing outgoing Chief Executive Dr. Neil McGoran who is now the Director of Catholic Education South Australia.

“Professor Westwell’s appointment as Chief Executive comes at a very exciting time in the evolution of the South Australian Certificate of Education.” Presiding Member of the SACE Board of South Australia Jane Danvers said.

For the past 10 years, Professor Westwell was the Director of the Flinders Centre for Science Education in the 21st Century (Science21) and the Strategic Professor in the Science of Learning at Flinders University.

He has also served as an appointed member of the SACE Board of South Australia since October 2012.

Professor Westwell is an internationally well-known and respected speaker, published researcher and academic writer with many accolades, including being named the ‘Scientist of the New Century’, by The Times newspaper in the United Kingdom in 1999.

SACE Board of South Australia is an independent statutory authority established to deliver the South Australian Certificate of Education (SACE) to all schools in South Australia, the Northern Territory and schools in China, Malaysia, Vietnam and Vanuatu.

Role of Chief Executive of the SACE Board of South Australia is appointed by the Governor of South Australia on the recommendation of the Minister on terms and conditions approved by the Premier.

SACE Board’s Executive Manager, Curriculum and Assessment Jan Raymond will continue as Acting Chief Executive until Professor Westwell commences his role.
