Ryan To Pitch Policy To Grassroots Volunteer Community

Shadow Minister for Emergency Services and Leader of The Nationals Peter Ryan will take a novel approach to announcing Policy today, using his blog to share news of a new awards program to recognise emergency service volunteers.

Mr. Ryan said he wanted the grassroots volunteer community to be the first to know about the initiative.

“I’m only an apprentice when it comes to new media, but I’ve been pleasantly surprised by the feedback I’ve been getting from the community since I first started using platforms such as Twitter and Facebook to communicate ideas and information.” Mr. Ryan said.

“I want to ensure our announcement today of an awards program to celebrate the tireless efforts of Victoria’s emergency service volunteers gets out to the volunteers themselves.”

“That’s why I will be uploading the announcement to my blog at 11 am today, which I’m pleased to say is a Victorian Liberal Nationals Coalition first.” Mr. Ryan said.

“Whether they freely give their time to the Country Fire Authority (CFA), State Emergency Service (SES) or any other of Victoria’s volunteer-based emergency services, Victoria’s volunteers are part of a community of like-minded people.”

“These awards are all about building recognition of their efforts and celebrating their achievements.” Mr. Ryan said.

“I want the wider volunteer community to be the first to know about them.”

“These days I’m regularly tweeting to share news so it’s only natural that the next step is using new media to get policy information out to grassroots communities.”

Mr. Ryan said the awards would be open to volunteers with the Red Cross, Ambulance Victoria CERT teams, Life Saving Victoria, Australian Volunteer Coast Guard, St. John’s Ambulance, Victoria’s SES, CFA and other organisations.

“I’ve fought for a fair share of funding for emergency service volunteers as I know Victoria simply couldn’t do without their contribution.” Mr. Ryan said.

“Only the Coalition is committed to protecting the interests of volunteers and ensuring their achievements are promoted right across Victoria.” Mr. Ryan said.
