Premier Ted Baillieu has welcomed the announcement of details of The Queen’s programme during her upcoming visit to Victoria on Wednesday 26 October.

“Following confirmation from the Palace, the Victorian Coalition Government is extremely pleased to confirm that The Queen and The Duke of Edinburgh will officially open the new Royal Children’s Hospital in Parkville during their visit.” Premier Baillieu said.

“The Royal Couple will also undertake a series of engagements during their visit which will showcase Melbourne’s status as the world’s most liveable city.”

After touring and officially opening the Royal Children’s Hospital, Her Majesty and The Duke of Edinburgh will visit an exhibition of indigenous art at the National Gallery of Victoria’s Ian Potter Centre and make a public appearance to meet people at Federation Square before travelling to Government House to attend a private reception and lunch.

“Hosting The Queen and The Duke of Edinburgh to officially open and tour Victoria’s new state-of-the-art Royal Children’s Hospital is a wonderful privilege and recognises the importance of the $1 Billion hospital redevelopment to Victoria’s children and families.” Premier Baillieu said.

“The Royal Visit is also a memorable and significant way to mark the 150th Anniversary of the National Gallery of Victoria.”

Following their day in Melbourne, The Royal Couple will travel to the Commonwealth Heads of Government meeting in Perth, where they will meet Heads of Government from many of the 54 members of the Commonwealth of Nations.

The Queen has visited Australia 15 times in total, with The Royal Couple’s last visit to Melbourne to open the 2006 Commonwealth Games.
