Premier Mark McGowan has congratulated Rio Tinto on its new local procurement process announced today, making it easier for local businesses to tender for work with the company.

Rio Tinto’s announcement follows calls from the McGowan Government to resources companies to ensure Western Australians get a bigger share of work on big projects.

“Congratulations to Rio Tinto on their new local procurement program, making it easier for local businesses to tender for contracts to create jobs for Western Australians.” Premier Mark McGowan said.

McGowan Government is committed to delivering local jobs and encourages other companies to provide more opportunities for Western Australia businesses and workers.

“We’ve made it clear that Western Australians must get a fairer share of this work and Rio Tinto has recognised that. I would encourage more companies to provide further opportunities for Western Australian businesses.” Premier McGowan said.

As part of the Government’s Plan for Jobs, a Skilled Local Jobs Bill will be introduced into State Parliament to encourage more local jobs on big resources projects.
