Coalition Delivers Ringwood A New Green Link

Victor P Taffa

Planning Minister Matthew Guy announced $200,000 in state funding for the creation of a new park at Sherbrook Avenue in the Ringwood Activities Area while he was visiting the Maroondah area today.

The funding for Maroondah City Council will cater for the municipality’s growing residential community.

“People living in the western part of the Activities Area need more green spaces and the provision of this new park actively respond to the important needs of the community.” Mr. Guy said.

“High quality open space and urban design are essential in delivering well-planned mixed uses and higher densities within our activity centres.”

The open grassed area of 3,000 square metres is bounded by Sherbrook Avenue and Grant Crescent, and connects to the Eastlink Trail and Mullum Mullum Trail.

Member for Warrandyte Ryan Smith welcomed the funding as an example of the Coalition’s ongoing commitment to Ringwood.

“Ringwood boasts a beautiful natural setting and easy access to pedestrian and bike paths, which will be further enhanced by this park.” Mr. Smith said.

The scope of the Sherbrook Avenue Park will be finalised by Maroondah City Council, which will also design and deliver the project. Local residents will be consulted about the park’s features, which could include playground equipment, seating, shelter and lighting.
