McGowan Government is seeking community feedback on its long-term Outer Harbour plan for Perth’s future freight, trade, logistics, cruise shipping and defence needs.

“We are making sure we have the right people and structures in place to deliver a real and committed plan to help secure the freight future of this State.” Minister for Transport Rita Saffioti said.

“Many people are interested in the planning and development of the new port, and we are interested in hearing their views.”

Westport Taskforce today released Westport: Preparing for the Strategy the State Government’s first discussion paper towards delivering its Outer Harbour vision.

In releasing its first discussion paper, the taskforce is inviting stakeholders to join the conversation on key factors that need to be investigated in the development of the Westport Strategy.

“Consultation and continuous communication will be integral to the development of the Westport Strategy and I have already met with a number of stakeholders who are passionate about getting this planning right.” Westport chairperson Nicole Lockwood said.

“In this initial phase of engagement, we are inviting input on our proposed process for developing the Westport Strategy, and whether we have identified all the key factors necessary for answering key policy questions on the location, size, operating model and timing for future port facilities.”

Taskforce is also seeking to capture any relevant existing information or work undertaken as part of previous studies. This will help build its evidence base which will inform where additional technical investigations are required.

Stakeholders and the community can get involved in the process by reading the discussion paper, completing the feedback survey and registering for project updates.

Feedback on the discussion paper will be accepted until 5 pm, Wednesday January 31, 2018.

A consultation summary will be made available at the end of February 2018. It will summarise the comments received and outline the updated Westport methodology.
