Dangerous Dogs ‘Sharks On Legs’

The introduction of tough new killer dog laws by the Victorian Government has highlighted just how out of touch Local Government Minister Bryan Green is in addressing the issue of dangerous dogs in Tasmania according to Shadow Minister for Local Government Rene Hidding.

“It is unacceptable that at the same time the Minister is aware that there are up to 1,000 pit bull cross breed dogs in Tasmania, he is saying that there is nothing more than can be done.”

“Despite the appalling statistics of dog attacks in Tasmania, Labor and the Greens seem more interested in sidestepping the real issue of cross breeding pitbulls with other powerful breeds, giving that cross bred animal the power to do appalling damage to whatever it chooses to attack.” Mr. Hidding said.

“These dogs have been described as sharks on legs and many attacks are going un-reported for fear of retribution by dog owners.”

“We are seeing a move both federally and in other states to do more to protect the community from dangerous dogs. It is now time that Tasmania does the same.” Mr. Hidding said.
