Labor MP’s Start Lining Up Against Sky Rail

Victor P Taffa

Premier Daniel Andrews and Minister for Public Transport Jacinta Allan’s Sky Rail is so unpopular that their own Labor MP’s are now lining up against it, Shadow Minister for Public Transport David Hodgett said.

“Labor Member for Essendon Danny Pearson has taken to social media to celebrate that Sky Rail has been ruled out for the Buckley Street level crossing in Essendon.” Mr. Hodgett said.

“Daniel Andrews and Jacinta Allan need to explain why their cheap and nasty Sky Rail is good enough to run over people’s homes on the Cranbourne-Pakenham and Frankston lines but not good enough for safe Labor seats.”

“Even Daniel Andrews’ own MP’s are beginning to admit that Sky Rail is cheap, nasty and Victorians never voted for it.” Mr. Hodgett said.

Sydney Heavy Rail Network Elevated Railways

On Sydney’s Heavy Rail Network there are currently 2 Elevated sections of Railway Line with a third as part of the North West Line currently under construction.

  • City Circle Line at Circular Quay
  • Eastern Suburbs Line at Rushcutters Bay and Woolloomooloo
  • North West Line at Kellyville and Rouse Hill (Currently Under Construction)

City Circle Line

Sydney’s City Circle Line was completed in 1956 with construction of the elevated section at Circular Quay. This elevated section provides Tourists with spectacular views of the Sydney Harbour Bridge, Opera House and Sydney Harbour generally.

This elevated section of railway line is the best asset that Sydney’s Heavy Rail Network has for passengers.

Eastern Suburbs Line

Sydney’s Eastern Suburbs Line was completed in 1979 and includes an elevated section of Track at Rushcutters Bay and Woolloomooloo.

By elevating the line, this overcame many engineering difficulties that were present and enabled the line to be finally completed to Bondi Junction.

North West Line

Sydney’s North West Line includes an elevated section of railway line that is currently under construction. Sydney’s North West Line will be good for the North West of Sydney and the Rail Network generally.

However the North West Line must be a Heavy Rail Technology so it connects with the rest of the network efficiently and enables a seamless connection to Sydney CBD, Marsden Park, Ropes Creek and Western Sydney Airport.

Melbourne Heavy Rail Network Elevated Railway

  • City Loop Line between Flinders Street and Southern Cross

City Loop Line

Melbourne’s Railway Lines between Flinders Street and Southern Cross (Formerly Spencer Street) were joined in 1879 with an elevated section of railway line.

There is nothing wrong with an elevated railway per se as long as the planning is done properly and that the public is adequately informed on the benefits and operation of such elevated sections of railway line.

It is up to all members of Parliament to come up to speed with the pros and cons of plans for elevated sections of railway lines.

Railway Level Crossings have long been a bane in the lives of Melburnians and now that they are finally being removed it would seem that people are still not happy.

Labor Members of the Andrews Government especially needs to understand the issue so as to be able to handle public comment on the matter.
