Minister for Primary Industry and Resources, Ken Vowles, will help launch the Territory’s largest industry exhibition in Darwin this week, delivering a keynote speech at the event.

Minister Vowles said Northern Territory Resources Week combines the South East Asia Australia Offshore and Onshore Conference (SEAAOC), Mining the Territory and Building the Territory.

This is an excellent opportunity for the Territory Government to help support the growth of the resources sector and its support industries, and showcase investment opportunities and the local service and supply capabilities across these sectors.

“This Government is supporting sustainable resources development to maximise jobs and economic benefits, minimise environmental impacts and ensure long-term beneficial land uses after closure.” Minister Vowles said.

“We are engaging with industry and want to ensure they understand Government’s direction and we are working together to build the Territory economy.”

Northern Territory Resources Week takes place at the Darwin Convention Centre from 16-17 August 2017.

It gives local industry an opportunity to connect with their national and international counterparts to discuss new trends and upcoming opportunities across these sectors.

“Northern Territory has a wide range of mineral commodities, including world-class deposits of manganese on Groote Eylandt, bauxite at Gove, lead-zinc-silver at the McArthur River, and gold at Callie in the Tanami.” Minister Vowles said.

“We also enjoy significant deposits of copper, phosphate, iron ore, lithium, vanadium, diamonds and rare earths, and have produced offshore and onshore oil and gas fields.”

“In recent years the Northern Territory has established its position as a major national and international player with significant investment through INPEX’s Ichthys LNG project, ConocoPhillip’s Darwin LNG project and the operations base for Shell’s Prelude Floating LNG. Events such as Northern Territory Resources Week help further strengthen that position.” Minister Vowles said.

Territory Government is supporting smaller businesses at the event through a designated service and supply display booth, to allow Northern Territory based small and medium enterprises the opportunity to showcase their goods and services.
