The latest unemployment data released by the Australian Bureau of Statistics (ABS) today confirms the best jobs figures for the West and North West Tasmania in over a decade.

The North West is leading the state in jobs growth with over 4,000 more people employed in the region on year average terms since the election of the Hodgman State Government, Treasurer Peter Gutwein said.

“In the past 12 months, average employment levels were 52,900 in the region, and this compares with 48,800 over the year leading to March 2014.”

Year average employment has gone up in every region since the election, up 2,600 for Hobart and the South East, and also 800 in Launceston and the North East.

In addition, long term unemployed is down 14.2 % to 4,600 in the year to June 2016, compared with the prior year. This compares favourably to a 1.7 % decline nationally over the same period.

“The Government realises that there is still more work to be done, and will continue to work constructively to create more job opportunities for Tasmanians.” Treasurer Peter Gutwein said.
