Call For Candidates To Stand For Broadmeadows District

Nominations are Now Open for Eligible Candidates considering standing in the Broadmeadows District By-Election. The vacancy arose following the Resignation of the Hon. John Brumby MP on 21 December 2010.

 

Anyone interested in representing this community is encouraged to stand. Potential candidates must be on the Victorian Electoral Roll; however, it is not necessary to live, or be enrolled in Broadmeadows District.

The Victorian Electoral Commission (VEC) is conducting an information session for independent candidates. It will take place at 4.00 pm on Monday, 24 January at the Victorian Electoral Commission, Level 8, 505 Little Collins Street, Melbourne. Nomination forms and other electoral information will be available at the session.

Electoral Commissioner Steve Tully said all Prospective Candidates should make sure they nominate before the deadline as late nominations cannot be accepted.

“All independent candidates must nominate with the Election Manager, Bob Guest, at Level 9 of the Victorian Electoral Commission, 505 Little Collins Street, Melbourne, by 12 noon on Tuesday, 1 February.” Mr. Tully said.

These Prospective Candidates should contact the Election Manager on 1300 551 575 for a Candidate Kit, which includes nomination information and a nomination form.

Registered Political Parties must nominate their candidates at the Victorian Electoral Commission, Level 8, 505 Little Collins Street, Melbourne, by 12 Noon on Monday, 31 January.

All Nomination Forms must be correctly completed and include a deposit of $350 (cash or bank cheque only).

The Broadmeadows District By-Election will be held on Saturday, 19 February.
