Premier Annastacia Palaszczuk is outraged that waste is being transferred from New South Wales and dumped across the border into Queensland.

“I will discuss the allegations, including the non-enforcement of the ‘proximity principle’, with New South Wales Premier Gladys Berejiklian.” Premier Palaszczuk said.

Proximity principle, under New South Wales law, makes it an offence:

To transport waste generated in New South Wales by motor vehicle for disposal more than 150 km from the place of generation, unless the waste is transported to 1 of the 2 nearest lawful disposal facilities to the place of generation.

“I want to work cooperatively with the New South Wales Government.”

“Our cross border agreement commits us to ‘consistent action on waste management’.”

“Queensland will not be the dumping ground for New South Wales waste.” Premier Palaszczuk said.
