Planning Minister John Day today announced the appointment of the inaugural board of the new Metropolitan Redevelopment Authority (MRA).

Mr. Day said the MRA would become one of the key elements of the planning system in Western Australia.

“Key redevelopment projects within the Perth metropolitan area such as the Perth City Link, Perth Waterfront, Riverside and the revitalisation of the Perth Cultural Centre will come under the MRA.” Mr. Day said.

“The establishment of this authority is an opportunity to build on and continue the success of the redevelopment authority model within Perth.”

“The new authority will increase the potential of the redevelopment authority model by building in flexibility, enabling resources to be deployed to projects as required, and removing duplication of functions.”

The board will comprise:

  • Eric Lumsden (chair);
  • Donald Humphreys (deputy chair);
  • Gary Prattley;
  • Cr. Carol Adams;
  • Ms. Fiona Kalaf;
  • Charles Johnson;
  • Dr. Fred Affleck.

The Minister said Mr. Lumsden had extensive planning experience with both State and local governments.

“A dedicated planning professional, Mr. Lumsden brings exceptional leadership qualities to the board and the knowledge he has gained throughout his career, spanning more than 30 years, will be highly valued.” Mr. Day said.

“This board has brought together exceptional individuals with enormous expertise in urban planning and development; place-making; investment attraction; policy; and administration.”

“The new board includes a member of the Western Australian Planning Commission, a member with local government background and five others with relevant qualifications and outstanding track records in their respective fields.”

“It also includes some existing redevelopment authority board members who will help provide continuity in the style of strategic direction that has served the existing redevelopment authorities so well.” Mr. Day said.
