The fresh face of Katanning Health Service has been unveiled in architectural drawings which detail the new emergency department, medical imaging and outpatient care building.

The redevelopment is part of the State Government’s Southern Inland Health Initiative supported by Royalties for Regions. The initiative is aimed at transforming health amenities across the Wheatbelt, Great Southern, Mid-West and South-West regions.

Health Minister Kim Hames said Peter Hunt Architects were contracted to design a facility that integrated existing buildings with contemporary new ones.

“They have chosen a combination of colours and textures to both contrast and link the existing red brick buildings on the site with the light, modern spaces of the new amenities. Use of cement sheet cladding in shades of green echoes the colours of the local landscape.” Dr. Hames said.

“The redevelopment is more than cosmetic of course. People in Katanning and surrounding areas will have access to a new state-of-the-art emergency department, medical imaging and outpatient care facility more in tune with contemporary models of health care.”

“The surgical services and associated sterilising department will also be refurbished and a new laundry and morgue will be built on site.” Dr. Hames said.

Regional Development Minister Terry Redman said the new Katanning Health Service, when completed, would provide more options for residents in the region seeking medical and ancillary care.

“The provision of quality health care services is essential to the sustainability, both social and economic, of regional WA.” Mr. Redman said.

“Royalties for Regions are investing in the redevelopment of health facilities to provide a contemporary health care model for residents in the bush, attracting, retaining and supporting a viable regional population in each area.”

Preliminary construction, or forward works, is scheduled to start in February.
