Commerce Minister Simon O’Brien today reminded the community that the Queen’s Birthday Public Holiday will be moved from Monday October 3 to Friday October 28 this year.

“We have moved the holiday so that the people of Western Australia can better take advantage of the Commonwealth Heads of Government Meeting (CHOGM) 2011 celebrations.” Mr. O’Brien said.

“There will be free public transport on Friday October 28 and Saturday October 29, so I urge you to get into Perth and have fun.”

“In the past the public holiday was during the Perth Royal Show in lieu of this the State Government has made it free for all kids 12 and under to enjoy the show as long as they are accompanied by an adult.” Mr. O’Brien said.

CHOGM 2011 will bring together more than 50 world leaders representing about 25 % of the world’s countries and 33 % of the world’s population.

The Commonwealth Festival runs from October 23 to 30 and features more than 70 free activities.

“On October 28 alone you can take in the Speakers Corner, a photographic exhibition, Extraordinary Stories from the British Museum, the Hawkers Market, street entertainment in the Hay and Murray Street Mall, and a host of kid’s activities don’t miss out.” the Minister said.
