Bendigo, Ballarat Health Forums Postponed Due To Floods

Victor P Taffa

Community Forums Planned for Bendigo tomorrow and Ballarat on Wednesday to discuss Proposed Federal Health Reforms has been postponed due to the Flooding, Health Minister David Davis said.

“While these forums were called to discuss an important issue, representatives of community and professional groups in the Loddon Mallee and Grampians regions have other priorities at the moment with the floods.” Mr. Davis said.

“Their input and advice on the potential impact of the Federal proposals is still important to me, and so these forums will be reconvened at a later date.”

The Baillieu Coalition Government has set a timetable of forums and round-table discussions to get the views of community and professional groups on the Federal Proposals.

Mr. Davis said he was keen to hear the views of Health Professionals and agencies on the proposals, particularly the Medicare Locals and their Proposed Boundaries.

“I am concerned at the size and extent of the proposed Medicare Local Boundaries, particularly as they relate to Country Victoria.” Mr. Davis said.

“I have concerns those communities which are geographically distant from each other and which have no common interests have been lumped together in the Federal Proposals.”

“I have already received considerable feedback from health professionals and agencies representing country Victorians, and these forums will help to further advise the Government and help us formulate our response.” Mr. Davis said.

“It is important to be able to consider the views of key health agencies and professionals, who will be the ones who are at the coalface with any changes to Victoria’s Health System.” Mr. Davis said.
