Top Teaching Graduates Get Immediate Job Offers

Education Minister Eva Lawler today presented the top Charles Darwin University (CDU) teaching graduates for 2016 with permanent job offers in Territory schools from next year.
A total of 17 teaching graduates today received formal notification of their permanent teaching appointments as part of CDU’s High Achieving Teaching Graduate Program, a partnership between CDU and the Education Department.
Ms. Lawler said the program aims to keep CDU’s best teaching graduates in the Territory after completion of their four years of study.
“Everyone knows great teachers have a major impact on a young person’s life helping to set them on a positive path.” Ms. Lawler said.
“We want to keep our best teaching talent in the Territory by providing them with the security of permanent teaching positions.”
“As Education Minister, and a former educator, I want to see quality teachers in every Territory classroom.”
“This Labor government believes every Territory child deserves the same educational opportunities as kids anywhere in Australia.” Ms. Lawler said.
“That’s why we will invest an additional $124 Million into school funding over the next four years, which will include $20 Million a year being spent on employing extra school staff and another $8 Million a year being directed into early intervention programs to tackle challenging behaviour and support students with additional learning needs.”

Ms. Lawler said she was pleased four of the 17 graduates were Indigenous teachers.
“It is important that as we invest in additional school staff we ensure we have more Indigenous teachers in our classrooms to reflect the diversity of the Territory’s population. They will be important role models for students across the Territory.” Ms. Lawler said.
Graduates will work in 15 different schools in settings as diverse as Ngukurr, Alice Springs, Darwin and Melville Island.
