Minister for Energy Matthew Groom officially opened the Humboldt River Power Station today.

The Humboldt River Power Station is a mini-hydro scheme with a generation capacity of 520 KW.

“It has been designed, constructed and will be operated by Ellendale-based engineering company, River Power Tasmania.” Mr. Groom said.

“The scheme can produce 1.5 to 2 gigawatt hours of electricity each year, and energy produced by the hydro system will be fed into the grid.”

“Renewable energy is an important part of Tasmania’s heritage and can provide great opportunities in the future. This is a great example of private sector innovation utilising Tasmania’s renewable energy advantage.”

“The Hodgman Tasmania State Government is committed to again making energy a competitive advantage for Tasmania and we are currently developing the state’s first whole-of-state Energy Strategy to help us achieve it. The Energy Strategy will help us to ensure Tasmanian households and businesses have the lowest possible, fair and sustainable power prices.” Mr. Groom said.
