Victorian manufacturer and supplier of plastics Qenos Pty Ltd today announced new, state-of the-art production facilities at its Altona site, enabling the production of a world-leading resin to be used to locally manufacture pipes.

Opening the new facilities, Minister for Manufacturing, Exports and Trade Richard Dalla-Riva said these innovative technologies will enable Qenos to meet growing market needs and double the current pipe resin manufacturing capability.

Qenos is currently undertaking a $195 Million Plant upgrade to expand and modernise its Altona manufacturing facilities.

“This technology Centrene™ PE100 enables heavy duty pipes, to be made from this new resin; producing more durability and flexibility than traditional concrete pipes.” Mr. Dalla-Riva said.

“This technology will provide opportunities for local Victorian suppliers to manufacture innovative pipe products to compete in global markets, and enable imports to be displaced using completely local content.”

Mr. Dalla-Riva said the new facilities will enable Qenos to ultimately double the amount of polyethelyne pipe resin manufacturing at the Altona site, positioning the company to supply growing demand from the water and mining industries.

“This will keep Victoria and Australia at the cutting edge of technology development for downstream suppliers and meet the challenges from overseas suppliers in the production of advanced technology plastics.” Mr. Dalla-Riva said.

“The project will enable Qenos and local plastics manufacturers to stay at the forefront of international manufacturing standards in this field by developing strong skills and technology transfer into the local marketplace.”

“The Victorian Government is committed to ensuring manufacturing businesses have greater access to new research and technologies, expanded markets and future opportunities through enhanced relationships with R&D institutions and industry-focused government assistance.”

“Qenos is a great example of a Victorian company committed to R&D, adding value to Victorian resources developing products to improve efficiencies in local water and mining industries.” Mr. Dalla-Riva said.

Qenos is an Australian leader in the manufacture, distribution and trading of polymers and is an important link in Victoria’s manufacturing chain. The manufacturing operations in Altona employ approximately 500 people and focus on supplying Australia’s growing polymer market.
