25 young people who have overcome adversity to realise their future potential and dreams have been recognised today at the Perth Airport Achiever Awards.

Perth Airport Achiever Awards are the only known honours of their kind in Australia that financially reward young people who are in care or have left care to help them pursue further education or training.

“I congratulate our inspirational young winners. They have had a tough start to life, but found strength within themselves to pursue further education and training that has the potential to significantly transform their lives.” Minister for Child Protection Simone McGurk said.

“It’s equally important to acknowledge the young winners’ support network, which includes family and foster carers, who have helped them along the way.”

This year, each winner aged 15 to 25 years will be awarded up to $4,000 each to lessen the financial burden so they can focus more on the important aspect of learning.

“Perth Airport is proud to be associated with the Achiever Awards and to continue its support for the eighth consecutive year.” Perth Airport’s Chief Corporate Services Officer Debra Blaskett said.

“These awards recognise young people who have overcome adversity to lead positive and productive lives.”
