Minister for Primary Industries and Resources Ken Vowles is in Adelaide today for the launch of Australia’s new peak national body for the seafood industry, Seafood Industry Australia (SIA).

Mr. Vowles said the new national body formed with extensive input from the Northern Territory Seafood Council will benefit the local industry through advocacy, promotion and improved practices.

“Managing our marine environment nationally is fundamental to the sustainability of the seafood industry and this new peak body gives the industry a united voice.” Mr. Vowles said.

“Territory’s seafood industry is a strong contributor to the Northern Territory economy. It’s also a vital and innovative player in the national industry, with the Northern Territory first to promote its local industry with ‘Support NT Caught’.”

“Northern Territory has been instrumental in the establishment of SIA, and thanks must go to Northern Territory Seafood Council CEO Katherine Winchester for her tireless work in bringing together the industry at a national level to form this peak body.”
