National Gallery of Victoria (NGV) is continuing to inspire the next generation of Australian artists with the opening of a new exhibition dedicated to teenagers and young people, Fiona Hall: Uneasy Seasons.

“NGV is owned by the people of Victoria and exhibitions like this that show that our gallery offers something for all ages and all tastes.” Minister for Creative Industries Martin Foley said.

“Fiona Hall is one of Australia’s most exciting artists and we are proud to welcome this incredible work to the NGV.”

Minister for Creative Industries Martin Foley was at NGV today to tour the newly opened exhibition, which explores the effect of the ever-changing seasons on natural habitats and the environment.

Created by leading Australian contemporary artist Fiona Hall, the interactive exhibition features two giant tree houses. One designed for teenagers, and another with young children in mind which visitors can climb in to create their own artworks.

Visitors can leave their creations behind in the space giving teenagers and younger children the chance to create and curate an installation that reflects on what it is like to be a young person in Australia today.

Fiona Hall is one of Australia’s best known contemporary artists. She has exhibited across the globe and in 2015 was chosen to represent Australia at the Venice Biennale.

This free exhibition is the first time Hall has created a work for teenagers and young people.

The exhibition is part of a bumper winter season at the NGV, with the Melbourne Winter Masterpieces exhibition Van Gogh and the Seasons preparing to open on 28 April.

“This exhibition shows why the NGV is Australia’s most popular gallery. I know it will be a big hit with both the young, and young at heart.” Minister for Tourism and Major Events John Eren said.

Fiona Hall: Uneasy Seasons is open daily at NGV International until 8 October 2017. Entry is free.
