  • Parkside project to support 150 jobs

The new Parkside at Queens Park development is the latest milestone in the Liberal National Government’s Affordable Housing Strategy, set to deliver 86 quality, affordable homes in the fast-growing south-east metropolitan region of Perth.

Housing Minister Bill Marmion said the apartments would be attractive to families and young professionals.

“This is a great project that has been carefully designed to bring a variety of one, two and three-bedroom homes to the market through the Department of Housing’s affordable sales program.” Mr. Marmion said.

“Parkside will deliver housing choice at prices affordable to households on moderate incomes, including new home buyers and locals looking to downsize.”

The Government’s New Living urban renewal program has already seen the redevelopment of the former Maniana housing estate into a vibrant, attractive precinct in Queens Park.

“Parkside will bolster Western Australia’s record level of housing construction activity too.” the Minister said.

“Projects like this create vital employment, with 150 building industry employees plus five apprentices set to work on this development.”

Mr. Marmion said the State Government’s Affordable Housing Strategy was increasing the supply of affordable homes and land as well as supporting building investment.

“Since 2010, more than 17,000 affordable housing opportunities have been delivered under the strategy in collaboration with public, private and not-for-profit sector partners.” Mr. Marmion said.

“Increasing the supply of apartments like these is a key component of the Government’s Affordable Housing Strategy 2010-2020: Opening Doors to Affordable Housing.”

Western Australian owned and operated builder Jaxon Construction has been appointed to deliver the Parkside project, with practical completion expected in November 2015.
