A Victorian Liberal Nationals Coalition Government will invest in a major upgrade to Mildura’s Natural Gas Supply Capacity to build future industry growth and business investment and create local jobs.

Making the announcement in Mildura today with Nationals Member for Mildura Peter Crisp, Coalition Leader Ted Baillieu said the commitment would be funded from the Coalition’s $100 Million Energy for the Regions Natural Gas Expansion Program.

“A Coalition Government will invest in a major expansion in the capacity of Natural Gas supply to Mildura to remove constraints limiting that supply.” Mr. Baillieu said.

“The upgrade would include at least one new gas compressor and other necessary works on the gas pipeline from South Australia to increase capacity for future growth.”

“After 11 years of Labor, Premier John Brumby has failed to invest in these upgrades, preventing local industry and businesses from reaching their potential.” Mr. Baillieu said.

“The Coalition will fix these problems by making a contribution to help local firms who can’t afford to pay for the upgrade by themselves.”

“A Coalition Government will work with distribution companies to build a better future for Mildura industry and business.”

Mr. Crisp said increased investment as a result of a boost to natural gas capacity would create more local jobs.

“Increasing natural gas supply means increased job opportunities for Mildura, particularly in processing our farm produce.” Mr. Crisp said.

“Local industries like the table grape industry, which has recently expanded its market into China, rely on natural gas for packaging of their produce.”

“With the table grape industry expected to double in size over the next 10 years, local companies will need to expand their operations to support this increase in market share.”

“I look forward to working as part of a Coalition Government to deliver this vital economic upgrade to grow industry and create more jobs in Mildura.” Mr. Crisp said.
