McGowan Government will deliver on its election commitment to hold a Bushfire Mitigation Summit to guide future strategies for bushfire mitigation.

“This summit is an important step to take in the State’s response to mitigating bushfires.” Minister for Emergency Services Fran Logan said.

“There will be a lot of experience in the room and it’s a fantastic opportunity for everyone involved in fighting bushfires to discuss what they believe are the best ways to mitigate these devastating natural disasters.”

Bushfire Mitigation Summit will be an opportunity for invited stakeholders to discuss lessons learnt from previous bushfires and to work on a way forward to improve bushfire mitigation.

All-day event, to be held in Mandurah on Friday, June 23, will look at targets for prescribed burns, local government agency responsibilities and the experience of bushfire volunteers.

“I look forward to having an open and constructive conversation with some of the State’s most experienced and valued bushfire fighters.” Mr. Logan said.

Key stakeholders will have the opportunity to sit down together to discuss achievable outcomes for mitigating bushfires.

Local MP’s from across the political spectrum have been invited in what is intended to be a multi-partisan approach.

Public submissions are welcome two weeks prior to the summit and will be open for a further two weeks after the summit.
