Minister for Manufacturing, Exports and Trade Richard Dalla-Riva officially opened Extrusions Australia’s new $11.5 Million manufacturing plant in Truganina today.

Mr. Dalla-Riva said the new facility was both a major commitment by the company to the local economy and workforce, and an illustration of how manufacturers could innovate and succeed in spite of a trying global economic environment.

“The plant is a third larger than Extrusions Australia’s old Laverton North operation and includes a new state-of-the-art extrusion press.” Mr. Dalla-Riva said.

“At full production it will employ around 100 people, almost doubling the company’s current workforce and providing 50 new manufacturing jobs for Victorians.”

The facility will design and manufacture aluminium extrusion profiles for commercial and residential window and door fabricators a sector worth more than $4.2 Billion in Australia last financial year, and in addition to aluminium products for the transport and marine industries.

Sedco Australia, which produces the dies used by Extrusions Australia, will also be co-located at the plant to streamline manufacturing processes and boost productivity.

“This is the latest in a series of major manufacturing investments announced for Victoria in recent months, including Hella Australia’s Global Mining Capability Centre, Parmalat’s multi-million dollar milk packaging facility in Rowville, and Nexteer’s $126 Million global auto steering systems design and manufacturing facility in Victoria.” Mr. Dalla-Riva said.

“My Department, through the Victorian Government Business Office in Sunshine, has been working to help support this significant expansion by Extrusions Australia through training assistance for new jobs and exploring solar power options for the new facility.”

“I congratulate Extrusions Australia on this major new investment in its future as a competitive Victorian manufacturer.”

“The Victorian Coalition Government wants to see more companies like Extrusions Australia thriving in Victoria and I urge local manufacturers to contact the Victorian Government Business Offices across the state to find out how they can help in developing new markets and boosting skills and productivity.” Mr. Dalla-Riva said.
